You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Favorite Parties

You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Favorite PartiesThe Olsen twins' previous party compilation, You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Greatest Parties, featured videos handpicked by their fans. The Favorite Parties on this collection, however, were chosen by Mary-Kate and Ashley themselves. Each party features a different theme, two female friends, five songs (plus a little dancing) and outtakes at the end followed by their signature catch phrase, "It's a wrap!" Although they aren't the best singers, Mary-Kate and Ashley get the job done and always look like they're having a great time. Still, two to three songs per party theme should have been sufficient (and would have allowed for greater character and story development). The sequencing could also be better. Fashion Party (1999), which opens the compilation, is clearly the most recent as the twins are sporting makeup, blonde streaks in their newly straightened hair, and a more sophisticated dress sense. They look significantly older than in Costume Party and Campout, even though those tapes were released only a year before (1998). Younger fans, however, are likely to ignore such shortcomings in favor of the cool outfits, catchy music and, of course, the stars of the show: the adorable, relentlessly upbeat boy- and pizza-crazy Olsen twins. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Customer Review: Tons of cheesy fun!

I'm 14, and all my friends are 15 (I'm young for my grade), but we had so much fun watching this video! We all liked Mary Kate and Ashley when we were younger, so we all happen to know the songs. It's really fun to sing and dance to all the cheesy tunes. The first two are great, but the third is a little bit mediocre. However, I'd recommend this video to any sentimental girl who loves to have fun with friends regardless of what others may think.

Customer Review: Parents Warning

After watching Mary Kate and Ashley sing you will come to think someone scratching nails on a blackboard is a better sound. Your Invited- parties are poorly done- the songs STINK, and sorry Olsen fans- the Olsen twins can't sing! In the end of the first of the parties you really just pity the poor girls- for what a humiliation these tapes must be to them in adulthood.

Watching these tapes with my cousins is my form of torture and it's nightmare to endure-- The Costume Party and Ballet Party are their favorites. After half an hour of cheesy songs and costumes you will give up any will to live.

This series deserves to be burned buy your child another tape maybe "Passport To Paris" or "Holiday in the Sun" which are half-way decent and call for a public burning to these tapes. To end the torture of parents...

Encyclopedia of Immaturity (Klutz)

Encyclopedia of Immaturity (Klutz)How to never grow up, the complete guide.

Customer Review: Become an Annoying Person--It's Fun!

First, the bad news.

Much of the content in this book is from other Klutz books, so if you have a lot of their books, you may notice some repeats.

Also, as has been mentioned, the binding is poor. Klutz asks readers to rip out and cut apart pages, and the book seems to be designed for this, since the pages fall out of the book readily (To be honest, this is inconsistent--some pages say to photocopy--don't tear out). But some of us would like to keep the book intact for future pranking opportunities. I ended up rebinding the book; you may need to, as well.

And, where is the index? Maybe it's considered "grown-up" to have an index, but I'd sure like one so I can quickly find my favorites, in alphabetical order. (Eek! Can immature people be organized? Maybe not.)

Aside from those little beefs, this book is a gem, and it deserves the five stars for the content, if not the binding. A sampling of the content: optical illusions, jokes, magic tricks, pranks, and how-tos for skills you never knew you'd have (like faking a sneeze and knowing how to do cat's cradle). It offers immature activities and pranks for all ages and is incredibly fun. You're sure to find at least a few items of interest in here, and will learn how to drive everyone you know completely up the wall, while you have a blast (see p. 99). Have fun!

Customer Review: Good stuff to know

This was a great read. Some of the things in this book I had forgotten about. I had a wonderful time reading it with my son.

Customer Review: Very Good Book For Pre-Teen Boys! Highly Recommended!

We gave "The Dangerous Book for Boys" to my son (11) last year because he had friends who were reading it. It was one of the few reasonable things on his Christmas list and it seemed like a good gift for our academically minded boy who spends more time inside than outside. This was a huge hit! Not only did he love reading it, but I also really enjoyed most of the chapters as well.

The book covers many things that boys would have learned in the past from their fathers or watching people work with their hands (knot tying, Star Gazing, First Aid, etc). Since we now live in a world where many of our "masculine" skills are no longer needed, where is boy to learn this things, if not from a book like this one?

The book also includes sections on historical battles, the history of pirates, and even includes some sections on social graces and talking to girls. It really is something of an eclectic mix, but it does work out nicely.

The book itself is well made and is very good looking. It should hold up well over time.

We were happy to let our boy get his hands dirty and to stimulate his imagination! Highly recommended!

Girls From Harm

Customer Review: Zowee!

This movie is like the "Persona" of spy-chick flicks, the "Gone With the Wind" of postmodern ironic slapdash cinema, the "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" of Sid and Marty Kroft. You just can't stop watching it. Tina Lee gives a solid, sexy, convincingly blase performance, and that whacky Jennifer Mattern knocks 'em dead as the HARM girls' best-buddy who's always underestimated. I particularly liked the fight scenes. After I left the theatre, I tried a few high kicks of my own, but then I pulled a groin muscle. My boyfriend and I frequently say to one another, "That's obsessive." One day, I am going to move to New York and try to meet the HARM girls, maybe even become their friends. At the very least, I'm going to buy some thigh-high boots and a catsuit.

Customer Review: I love being in H.A.R.M.'S way

This movie is like Charlie's Angels if the budget was cut in 1/2 then 1/2 again, then 1/2 again. Take that budget and cut it in 1/2 again and again and again. You get the picture, this is one cheap production! But that doesn't make it bad. It's actually quite fun! I really enjoyed the action and the girls are really cute. My favorite is Viola. If you like B-Movie fare and like to have fun with something different. I think you would like this film. The acting is great and there's a lot of love put into the overall production. It's the story of these spy-girls and they're out to stop a mad man. Not much new on plot, but the fun twists more than make up for it. Again, if you like B-Movies I would recomend it. If you don't know what I'm talking about, STAY WAY!

Amusement Parks : The Pursuit of Fun

Amusement Parks : The Pursuit of FunAmericas original amusement parks were built at the turn of the century to entertain a public that had more free time and money than ever before. Today American amusement parks draw nearly 300 million visitors a year with water rides, hi-tech roller coasters, bumper cars, and nostalgic midways.

Amusement Parks: The Pursuit of Fun features the best of these "grown-up playgrounds." It highlights Kennywood near Pittsburgh, the best traditional park in the country, and the home of the fastest and longest roller coaster in the world, the Kennywood Steel Phantom. Another featured "playground" is Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, a true theme park, with nine "hamlets" modeled on old European villages and rides like Escape from Pompeii which simulates the volcanic destruction of the ancient Italian city. Amusement Parks: The Pursuit of Fun also visits Universal Studios in Los Angeles, a contemporary theme park, with virtual reality, motion-simulator rides. Finally, come along on a trip to Cedar Point Park, on the coast of Lake Erie, which has the most roller coasters of any park in the world.

Experience the pleasures of these truly great parks, with their atmosphere of joy and excitement that rekindles childhood memories and to see how modern technology has contributed to "the pursuit of fun."

Customer Review: Excellent Information and Park Footage!!!

I want to start off with a little history that you will get in the video. America's original amusement parks were built around the turn of the century for the purpose of entertaining the public, which, at that time, had more free time and money that ever before. That's one of the main reasons that these parks were successful. Today, amusement parks draw in nearly 350 million visitors a year with new hi-tech roller coasters, nostalgic midways, and all sorts of other rides to entertain even the most strict enthusiast for days!

This vidoe features several parks, which you can read in the items description. There is some excellent footage from Cedar Point and Kennywood. You get a chance to see the park in general and not just focus on one ride or particular feature of the park. You basically get an overview of what the park is like. You cover some of the history of the parks and how they got to be the way they are today. Also, how the park's history is incorporated into the amusement park today. Today's parks are not just about new technology, but keeping that fun and carefree feeling fro the turn of the century with the park. There is also an interesting look at Universal Studios in Los Angeles that features their virtual reality rides, and the new technology that is being developed to thrill their guests more than ever before.

While this video is dated, it still gives an excellent view into the world of these top amusement parks. I would say that this video focuses on two main points: 1) the history of these parks and how it shows through today, and 2) it shows how modern technology has contributed to these parks and making them become the best. These parks have to be the best, though, becuase they are frequent tourist destinations. Overall, this video will open your eyes to the amazing world of amusement parks. Whether you are an avid entuhsiast or just looking into the parks for the first time, this video will give you everything you need and leave you craving more!!!

What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Infinite possibilities for innovative construction

The Bad: Lots of little pieces to keep track of

In a Nutshell: Start with an awesome thrill ride and keep creating
At a Glance

Ages: 9 and up
Requires: 2 AA batteries
Over 1500 Pieces
The popular K'NEX building system uses a variety of connectors to combine sturdy plastic rods. Pieces are color coded based on their shape, and elements like gears and working motors help put creations into action. This collection of more than 1500 K'NEX pieces provides everything needed to begin having fun right away. Since the best part of K'NEX is the creative construction process, no parental assembly is required. Simply use a coin to slip two new AA batteries (not included) into the motor before an invention is ready to utilize power.

This set comes with an oversized booklet offering step-by-step instructions for assembling the Sawblade Thrill Ride, a daring structure with two spinning wheels that's over four feet tall. Even though colored illustrations make these instructions easy to follow, the Sawblade is a large, complicated ride, and even the most accomplished builders will be proud when they finish construction and set the motor spinning for the first time.

Imagine, Build, Play
Like any building toy, this K'NEX set isn't limited by the model in the instructions. Anything kids can dream up, they can make from K'NEX. Of course, it isn't always easy. Geometry and physics play a role in the way a structure stands and moves, adding an educational component to each building session. And by fostering attention to detail along with creative problem solving skills, building toys like K'NEX encourage kids to be thoughtful and innovative.

With plenty of pieces for more than one budding architect, K'NEX offer a way for kids to connect with each other, too. Friends and siblings can put their heads together to cooperatively construct a spectacular building or vehicle, or they can divvy up the parts and compete to see who comes up with the most unbelievable new thing.

The Possibilities Are Endless
Stumped trying to come up with something to build? Or do you simply think a ride called the Swinging Rocket sounds super cool? Go to knex.com online and download instructions for alternate builds using the pieces in this set.

If your child is prepared for a bigger challenge, you can combine the Sawblade Thrill Ride with other sets for even more versatility. K'NEX building systems featuring other unbelievable thrill rides, speedy vehicles, and tubs full of useful parts are entirely compatible with the pieces in this set. All those little connectors can be difficult to keep track of, but the thrill of creation makes it worthwhile.

What's in the Box
1555 building pieces, including a K'NEX motor, and an instruction booklet.

Customer Review: excellent

I ordered this toy on noon one day and it arrived by noon the next. The shipping and packaging of the toy was exceptional. Although we have not yet played with it, it looks like hours of fun. I bought this for my 9 yr old for christmas and I can't wait to see the excitement on Christmas morning.

Customer Review: Tinker toys on steroids

As an oldster tinker toys is what comes to mind when I first introduced to K-Nex. This is a much superior product as the pieces stay assembled and functions as the real word you can apply lateral stress and realize the same failure you might find in a real world structure . This is for an advanced nine year old or adult involvement is necessary the simpler model sets are better to introduce a child to K-nex as the plans are sight driven . see replicate. some pieces hard to snap together is why they hold together so well.

My Little Pony Ponyville Deluxe Playset

My Little Pony Ponyville Deluxe PlaysetThis huge amusement park playset contains a roller coaster and a swinging "boat" ride specially sized for Ponyville Ponies, an ice cream parlor to enjoy a sweet snack, and an enormous Ferris wheel, complete with lights and sounds! Hasbro. Ages: 3+

Customer Review: pretty toy for your toddler

This is so cute and musical, fun for your little girl to play with her my little ponies, has cute piece you can buy to add on like ice cream truck. This is very colorful and had many ways to play, its a small amuzement park for your ponies. I must say amazon had a one day price drop and I got it for a steal or a deal.. way to go amazon

Customer Review: On every 4-yr-old's list!

My daughter just got this for her 5th birthday. She's had her eye on it since it came out and she has not been disappointed! The ferris wheel gets the most play (be sure to take it out of demo mode). Fortunately, she already owned enough little ponies to fill it and then some. I'd recommend getting a pack of extra ponies to make the ferris wheel worth while. It only comes with 1 pony - a set of this size should really at least have 2. My only complaint is that the ponies tend to be front-heavy in the ferris wheel and the "cars" therefore tend to tip. She also loves the rollar coaster but doesn't bother with the ice cream shop. We have to put away the tiny pieces because of little brothers.

Nerf N-Strike Recon CS-6 Dart Blaster

Nerf N-Strike Recon CS-6 Dart BlasterCustomer Review: Not a single jam yet.

I guess a lot of people have a problem with the darts jamming in this gun. I have yet to see it with mine, possibly because I am a 50 years old kid and can load the darts properly in the clip (easy to do). I've probably fired it at least 500 times so I am fairly confident that jamming is not a design flaw, but probably a loading problem on the part of the user.

There are many web pages that show how to take this toy apart and modify it for extra distance and also just for adding cool features. It is educational to see the guts and understand the underlying "engineering" that goes into such a toy. I was left scratching my head over how they can design, manufacture and ship these toys for the price. Furthermore it is particularly satisfying after the mods to see the darts fly a lot faster and hit harder (which I don't recommend for young kids).

The only caveats I have with this thing are that it is relatively flimsy at certain key points, the darts are not very accurate over 20 feet and the extras that go on the option rails are useless. I totally expect the shoulder stock to break under stress as it is thin plastic. While the darts will now fly over 30 feet with extra zip, outside of 20 feet, they seem to have a mind of their own. Finally, the red light targeting system is basically useless and just another thing to break. I guess I should add that my wife and cats (only when they are bad) seem to hate this toy.

Overall, for 20 bucks this is good fun for kids of all ages.

Customer Review: Recon Review

This is a GREAT Nerf gun. I do have to admit, it does indeed jam, but not as often as most people say it does. I have two of these in my arsenal now. (I also have the Longshot and Maverick). The shoulder stock part for this is not as "wobbly" or flimsy as people may say it is.

This gun in particular is a lot of fun to play with. I find the pros to this gun is that it has the different parts. The shooter has the option of using just the pistol by itself, just putting on the front barrel attachment to make a "star wars-like" blaster without the stock, or with the stock but without the front barrel.

The cons are: Reloading is a hassle (Make sure to buy refill clips and darts). Light is particularly wobbly when placed on the "tactical rails" (to take care of this, I placed a small piece of velcro on back part of the light and the pistol itself [where they touch]. This will give it some added stability).

I had a nerf war/capture the flag with my friends (2 on 2). All four of us had Recons. The game would have been a lot more fun if we had more people, but we still had a lot of fun. The flip sight can be useless if you're running around trying to shoot people. So unless you're going to take the time to aim, you don't have to use the flip sight. (although, it does indeed make the gun look cooler)

My biggest recommendation would be to get refill magazines/clips and extra STREAMLINE darts (CLIPS FOR THE LONGSHOT WORK FOR THIS GUN).

I would recommend this toy for kids 8 and up. (Gun can be big for some kids and reloading can be difficult.)

Customer Review: FINALLY! Pinocchio gets the special treatment!

For years, the only available edition of Disney's classic "Pinocchio" has been a bare-bones movie-only version with no extras at all. Practically every other animated film in the Disney vault has been released in special 2-disc editions. Now, this will be fixed with the upcoming DVD & Blu-ray release on March 10, 2009. Released in 1940, "Pinocchio" was the 2nd animated feature, following the release of "Snow White." It also introduced the Oscar winning song, "When You Wish Upon a Star," which is one of the most memorable Disney songs ever.

For those unfamiliar with the story, it involves a wooden puppet, Pinocchio, created by lonely Gepetto the woodcarver. The Blue Fairy grants his wish of making the puppet alive, however, he can only become a real boy if he proves himself "brave, truthful, and unselfish." Assigned the character Jiminy Cricket as his conscience, Pinocchio begins his adventures to become a real boy. Without giving away too much of the plot, one of my favorite sequences is the one involving Pleasure Island. It would not be too difficult today to draw parallels to what happens to people when they get attracted to dangerous short-term pleasures that mask a life of imprisonment. Although the movie dips into some dark territory, obviously Disney brings it back to happier ground, showing the power of true love (albeit not a romantic one this time). Cliff Edwards brings Jiminy Crickett to life with his expressive vocal talents, and few can equal his singing of the classic "Wish Upon A Star" song in his trademark falsetto. Little known trivia: the voice of the Blue Fairy is actress Evelyn Venable, who played Shirley Temple's mother in "The Little Colonel" (1935).

Audio specs have not been announced yet, but I will add them as soon as they become available. However, judging from the preview clips shown on the DIsney "Tinkerbell" Blu-ray, the picture looks incredible, as a result of the recent restoration.

Since Amazon doesn't list the bonus features anymore (and many of us like to know that kind of stuff), here's what the DVD will include:

DISC ONE

* Pinocchio's Matter of Facts: Fun facts about Pinocchio and other related subjects as you watch the movie

* Audio Commentary: Leonard Maltin, Eric Goldberg and J. B. Kaufman

* Disney Song Selection: Sing along with favorite songs as the lyrics appear onscreen

DISC TWO

* "No Strings Attached: The Making of Pinocchio." Behind-the scenes magic that transformed Carlo Collodi's popular book into a classic animated film.

* 2 Deleted Scenes: The Story of the Grandfather Tree (Kindly Geppetto tells Pinocchio about the Great Pine Tree from which Pinocchio is descended) and In The Belly Of The Whale (The most elaborate of Pinocchio's deleted scenes that remain in the Disney Archives, these recently discovered storyboards reveal a different version of Geppetto inside Monstro).

* Alternate Ending: A recently uncovered set of small storyboard panels reveal plans for a different version of Pinocchio becoming a real boy.

* The Sweat Box: The Sweatbox was a small projection room at the Disney studio where Walt critiqued story reels, rough animation, and dailies of films in progress with his anxious artists. This piece traces the history of the Sweatbox and brings to life this important part of Walt Disney's artistic process.

Pinocchio (Disney Gold Classic Collection)

Pinocchio (Disney Gold Classic Collection)Disney's second full length movie after Snow White. Delightful, hand-drawn images.

Customer Review: Haven't received my merchandise

I ordered my DVD several weeks ago and am still waiting for it. The estimated time of arrival indicated November 3 at the latest. I also contacted the vendor, but have not received any reply. I am very unhappy at this point.

Customer Review: Suitable for viewing by every child and child at heart

I first saw this movie as a child some sixty-five years ago and have always remembered it fondly. Now, having my first grandchild, I began to wonder if it was really as good as I thought it was and if my granddaughter might enjoy seeing it too.

What a joy! Walt Disney's Pinocchio is everything I remembered it to be. The musical score is enchanting and the art work superb. Truly remarkable, the art work, drawn by true craftsmen, makes modern computer graphics look shallow and sickly by comparison. The principle characters are equally well done and charmingly presented. And, best of all, Pinocchio's story carries with it three important moral lessons which every child should learn: If you want to be a real boy [or girl] you must listen to your parents and let your conscience be your guide; if you tell a lie it will be as plain as the nose on your face; and if you don't follow your conscience and mind your parents, you'll most likely go astray and make a jackass of yourself.

This is simply a great film and a great story with a great message, and is suitable for viewing by every child and child at heart from the age of five to at least one hundred and five. Too bad the limit is five stars. This film and those who made it certainly deserve much more.

This was a fantastic book and an incredible movie!!! We all just loved it!! This is a movie for the whole family to watch together!!!!!

Customer Review: A treasured film

In the Hallmark tradition this wonderful film chronicles the journey of a man who dies during an act of heroism and finds himself in a heaven unlike anything he expected. During his encounters with five people (waiting to guide him through his journey) he realizes that all of our lives are intertwined. The experience brings him to a place of love and forgiveness that will leave you teary eyed.

The character and story developments are masterful and a must see for all true movie fans. This has become my favorite film of all time. I hope you enjoy it half as much as I did

Customer Review: Poor quality

We bought this for a Christmas present for our son who is 7. As with the previous review, the score board does not work, the sound only partially works and the game keeps resetting itself--very frustrating for a kid. This is poorly made and NOT worth the money spent. I was really disappointed.

Customer Review: could've spent $ on something better

I got this for my son for christmas and it worked well for a hour or two. Then the scoreboard stopped working and the reset button would'nt work. You also had to mess with the connections on the back to get contact. Just wasnt worth the money.

Customer Review: Three in a row

My children have now worked through all three Fritz & Chesster games, and they love them. They are fun, and they do a good job teaching chess fundamentals in a way that engages the child. They are probably on the clunky side for true gamers, but I still highly recommend them.

Customer Review: good for kids; a little slow and unwieldy

My 7 yr old and his 4 yr old brother really enjoyed this game. As an adult, I don't care for it at all, but I'll split the difference and give it a 3 star rating. It entertains and teaches in its own slow, insipid way. I have a feeling if we'd started with the first installment, vs this third one, it might make more sense.

Customer Review: Really fun!

This game is really fun! It reminds me a little bit of Thrillville only because it is an adventure game inside of an amusement park. The adventure part of the game is in doing what others ask of you. It might be to find a hat or win a certain prize in a game. You need coins and tickets to play games and there are jobs you can do around the park to make coins and tickets. You can also play the amusement park games which is where the mini game portion comes in. I have not played this very long, but so far I am having tons of fun with it!!! The only thing I don't like so far is that there seems to be no way to track your progress so I have no idea how close I am to the end of the game. But the game is definately worth buying and tons of fun!!

Customer Review: Mac Rollercoaster 3

This is a fun and entertaining game. It works much better on the Mac (doesn't every software?) than on the Windows PC. It works faster, smoother, and without errors.

Customer Review: RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 (Mac)

My kids love this game. They had a copy for our PC, and when we all converted to Mac they were very upset they would not have access to the game. I bought the copy for the Mac, and they are thrilled. It is a great game that teaches important concepts including budgeting, resource management and engineering in addition to being FUN. We are not big proponents of lots of "screen time", but this is one exception. Both my 8 year old son and 10 year old daughter love it.

Customer Review: Dull, repetitive games, buggy physics

RUN from this game. It makes Carnival Games look GENIUS in comparison. As the other reviewer said, you only get 1 free game in each of the 5 sections, so you must play so many times & do well enough in that game alone to earn enough tickets to play the other about 5 games in that section. All the other games cost 10-50 tickets each to play once & they only give you 10-100 tickets each, some only 20 even if you get the top score & play perfectly. Did I mention that in order to get to the next section you must have bought the prizes with said tickets? It's bad enough it looks cheap, dull & the auctioneer in each section have horrible, inane, non-helpful things to say, but also all the games are the same, but in different themes. I got to section two before I was tempted to throw my wii remote. Both had a non-moving objects shooting gallery, both had a whack a mole game, etc. A game that forces you to play games repeatedly ad nasueum to get to anther section. why don't they force you to watch a good movie as well & take any possible fun out of that too? Oh, the ride if you earn enough tickets? Is just another "game" such as section 1 is you shot out of a cannon & have to hit the botton displayed at the right time as you go through obstacles. Like a slow rhythm game. OOhhhhhh. You know a game is bad if on the commericial the actors have to dress up & do lame things to seem like they are having fun instead of just showing gameplay. Unless the gameplay SUCKS.

There are several review sites like IGN com which even shows you video of several minutes of gameplay. I rented this & I still want my $3 back.

Customer Review: ok but not great

They lead you to beleive that this game is a combination of boardwalk games (wack a mole..toss a ball) and "rides" you can go on. There are five "themes" to the park. you play games (at each theme..one is always free) you do well enough and you are awarded tickets to play at other games. the goal is to "Purchase" all the toys at the themes vender unlocking the "Ride" which turns into yet another competition game. Like I said, its ok. but not great.

40 Watt Green Light Bulb / Incandescent Green A19 / 130 Volt Long Life130 volt incandescent products work with standard 110-120 volt household systems. The advantage of 130 volt products is that they protect the incandescent filaments from power spikes (the source of most incandescent bulb failures). 130 volt bulbs are slightly less bright than 120 volt, but offer substantially longer life.

Savage Amusement

Savage AmusementDigitally remastered reissue.

Customer Review: good album for Scorpion fans, not for the masses

If you're a big fan of the Scorpions like I am, you'll probably enjoy Savage Amusement. It is not, however, on the same high level as their outstanding peak albums Blackout and Love At First Sting. For the casual listener who wants something beyond a "greatest hits" compilation studio album, I recommend those two releases. If you're a Scorpshead who wants more Matthias, Klaus and Rudy, Savage Amusement fits the bill. My favorite tracks include Rhythm of Love and When Passion Rules the Game.

Customer Review: Great album, AMAZING remaster

I know that the Scorpions' albums from this era aren't universally loved, and that longtime fans in particular were not pleased by the band's crossover into more radio friendly territory, but for those of us who discovered the Scorpions in the mid to late 80's, these are the albums that define the band's sound.

Case in point - 1988's Savage Amusement. Coming on the heels of the monster hit Love at First Sting, Savage Amusement finds the band continuing their arena rocking heavy metal sound. This is a first rate 80's metal album all the way. Hearing Rudolf Schenker's guitar work on this album reminds me of a skilled surgeon at work. He just gets in there and cuts with incredible precision. This first rate metal guitar work makes it much easier to overlook the band's love-obsessed lyrical content. And of course there are Klause Meine's unique and powerful vocals. I can't imagine ever hearing the term "German metal" and NOT immediately thinking of Meine's voice. Savage Amusement doesn't have a super anthem on par with Rock You Like a Hurricane here, but there are plenty of great rockers, including Don't Stop at the Top, Passion Rules the Game, and Media Overkill. The album also features two of the band's bigger hits in Rhythm of Love and the sappy ballad Believe in Love. I can see how these kinds of songs could put off some fans, but overall this is a very hard rocking album, ballads or not.

Love at First Sting is the better album, but Savage Amusement comes pretty close. It's a great example of the Scorpions sound in the 80's, and 20 years later remains one of my favorite albums from that era.

NOTE: The 2001 EMI reissue of Savage Amusement features absolutely AMAZING digitally remastered sound. It's a dramatic improvement in sound quality over the original, and in fact sounds like something released today. Even without bonus tracks, the improved sound quality makes replacing your older version totally worthwhile.

The Best of Guided by Voices: Human Amusements at Hourly Rates

The Best of Guided by Voices: Human Amusements at Hourly RatesCustomer Review: I'm with everyone - This is a perfect GBV mixer

There's a book about Guided by Voices - 'Twenty-One Years of Hunting Accidents in the Forests of Rock and Roll'. The Filmaker Richard Linklater says 'my list of favorite GBV songs runs to about 150 songs'. This collection 'The Best of Guided by Voices' comes in with about 30. Its a very good start.

If you are GBV collector maniacs, you will already have everything on this cd (in box sets, and twice on vinyl). If you are new to GBV you can either start here, and see if you can stop, or just jump to the box set Hardcore UFO's (where this disc is included).

What am I talking about? I'm talking about G.B.V.: the song delivery mechanism for songwriting junkie Robert Pollard that functioned in absolute obscurity for at least a decade, before exciting non-Ohio native music fans with a fully formed catalog of hundreds of songs during the 1990's. These guys were making rock and roll so long ago that the vogue was to sing with a fake british accent - I'm not sure but I think Pollard even pre-dates REO speedwagon in this. If you are getting the impression that GBV had their heyday back when Chicago had their third album out, you might be missing the point. GBV's last four or five albums are as good as any of their formers, and all five are represented in Human Amusements at Hourly Rates. If rock reviews were more succinct, it wouldn't influence anyone's buying decisions anyway, but sometimes a group is so good, you just have to do the wrong thing, and talk about them a lot, instead of listening to their music. GBV is just such a group, and if you are new to their rather massive catalog, I envy you. Try 'Human Amusements', if you like it, there's plenty more where that came from (A small town somewhere near Dayton Ohio).

Customer Review: Probably the Greatest Best Of, of all time

Yes folks, you have your Beatles Double Disc greatest, but GBV is a band that has produced many albams which the majority believes has brilliant songs and then some not so brilliant songs muddled in.

This takes their Best, and has to be considered The Greatest Greastest Hits album in Rock n Roll history, in my mind of course.

So many other groups have those albums that you need to listen to the entire album to get it's full impact, and the hits album doesn't measure up.

This is that once in a lifetime wierd exception.

My recomendations would be to get this album, Earthquake Glue, and Half Smiles of the Decomposed, and you've got a hefty amount of incredible GBV material.
